Visitor questions
Reading the map
Where do the wind and wave figures come from?
From Open-Meteo forecast models, interpolated between points along La Manga, plus a measured wind reading from the San Javier airport weather station when it is available. The forecast is refreshed several times a day and current conditions every few minutes.
Is the sports outlook a safety guarantee?
No. The green, amber and red ratings are a guide based on typical thresholds for each sport. They do not account for currents, jellyfish, visibility, your equipment or your level. Always check the official forecast and warnings and make your own decision before going out.
Why does the map show two shores?
Conditions can be very different on the Mediterranean and on the Mar Menor on the same day. A strong easterly (levante) roughens the open sea while the lagoon stays flat, and the opposite can happen with a westerly (poniente). Comparing both shores is how locals choose where to go.
Which wind names will I see?
The map uses the local names: levante is the easterly, poniente the westerly, lebeche the south-westerly, gregal the north-easterly, jaloque the south-easterly, maestral the north-westerly and mediodía the southerly.
