Cabo de Palos faces east, so sunrise is the obvious spectacle. But sunset has its own appeal, looking into the bay with the lighthouse behind. Four free viewpoints, all within fifteen minutes' walk of the harbour.

Quick fact
The lighthouse at Cabo de Palos, built in 1865, stands 51 metres above sea level. You cannot climb the tower, but the surrounding forecourt is free to visit all year round.
The four spots
- 1The lighthouse forecourt, a fifteen-minute walk uphill from the harbour. The most popular spot and the busiest in August.
- 2The marina breakwater, with boats returning and the lighthouse in the background, is much less crowded.
- 3The terrace at El Puertecico bar, if you're happy to buy a drink for the view.
- 4The small cove below the lighthouse has rocks to sit on and is almost deserted once the sun goes down.
In July and August, sunset falls between 20:50 and 21:15, getting a little earlier through September. Arrive twenty minutes before sunset, as the best spots on the forecourt fill quickly.
