Paella, caldero (the local fish and rice stew) and seafood in Urbanización Babilonia

Bonobo Playa is a Mediterranean seafood restaurant right on the beach in Urbanización Babilonia, at km 3 of the Gran Vía in La Manga. Its name is associated with rice dishes: paella appears in over a hundred Google reviews, while caldero (the local fish and rice stew), arroz a banda (rice cooked in fish stock) and lobster rice each feature in dozens.

Rice dishes to share and grilled seafood

Most tables order a rice dish to share and seafood starters. According to reviews, these are the most popular choices:

  • Seafood paella and caldero (the local fish and rice stew)
  • Arroz a banda (rice cooked in fish stock) and lobster rice
  • Baby cuttlefish, garlic prawns and whitebait
  • Mixed grilled seafood, with lobster as the centrepiece
  • Zamburiñas (small scallops)

It is not all fish. The restaurant also serves meat, with bone-in rib steak and rib-eye mentioned in reviews. There is a children's menu, and two customers praise the wine selection.

What the reviews say

After rice dishes, quantity is the most repeated theme: large portions and a modest bill for what reaches the table. Quick service and dining just steps from the sand also receive praise.

Getting a table in season

The dining room fills up in summer, and some customers calling mid-morning found the first lunch sitting already full. Book by phone or through the restaurant website. Walk-ins can leave their name: two reviews say they were notified as soon as a table became free.

In high summer it opens Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. Out of season, Google shows lunchtime opening only, with Mondays closed in both schedules. Beside the dining room is the venue's own beach bar area for a beer before lunch or a drink afterwards. The entrance, interior and toilets are wheelchair accessible, and there is a terrace and Wi-Fi.
