Sand, snorkelling and the start of the route to Calblanque

Cala Reona is a sandy cove in Cabo de Palos, facing Mediterráneo and adjoining Calblanque Regional Park. It has free parking almost beside the shore, public toilets and a beach bar, and is a classic starting point for both snorkelling and cliff walks towards the park's unspoilt beaches.

Snorkelling and swimming

Snorkelling is much discussed: the seabed combines rocks and seaweed, there are plenty of fish and the water is usually calm, with barely any waves. Seaweed is also one of the most frequent complaints, as on some days it accumulates on the shore.

Water conditions

Good to know before going: in recent years many reviews have mentioned murky water, unpleasant smells and sewage discharges in the cove. If you plan to swim, check for water-quality notices first.

Beach bar and route to Calblanque

The beach bar is another recurring topic, with mixed views on its prices. A path leaves the cove and follows the coast towards Calblanque, with no shade and coves and cliffs along the way.

Getting here

From the A-37 motorway between Alicante and Cartagena, take exit 800 onto the MU-312 towards La Manga and Cabo de Palos, then continue towards the cove. More ideas in beaches and places of interest.
