A bird's-eye view of Calblanque's coves from the dark rock

El Mirador de Punta Negra is a natural lookout within Parque Regional de Calblanque, in the municipality of Cartagena, near Cabo de Palos. It is at the end of the Mirador de Punta Negra and Playa Larga path, a family-friendly route starting at the Playa Larga car park and following almost level ground beside the Mediterráneo.

What you can see from the top

The viewpoint takes its name from the dark colour of the rock at this point on the coast. The panorama takes in much of the park:

  • the coves of Los Déntoles, del Magre and Arturo
  • the Calblanque plain
  • Cabezo de la Fuente, which dominates the landscape
  • the open Mediterráneo

What you pass along the way

Along the walk you pass a large fossilised dune and Salinas del Rasall, where waterbirds such as black-winged stilts and, on some days, flamingos can be seen. The route has a birdwatching point where you can watch without disturbing them.

Getting here

As well as the path from Playa Larga, some walkers arrive along the marked coastal route from Cala Reona. Drivers should expect a rather rough access track to the car park. The viewpoint is not wheelchair-accessible. Find more outing ideas in what to visit in and around La Manga.
