Unspoilt beaches and trails south of Mar Menor

Parque Regional de Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila is the protected area on the coast south of Mar Menor, between Cartagena and La Unión, very close to Cabo de Palos and La Manga. It is known for its undeveloped beaches, fossil dunes and network of trails with sea and mountain views.

Beaches without facilities

The beaches are the main reason to visit and the most frequent theme in reviews. These are natural stretches of sand: there are no lifeguards, beach bars or bins, and many areas have no mobile signal either. Bring a parasol, water and sun protection, and take all your rubbish away. The sand gets very hot in summer, and the water is usually clean and clear.

Getting here by car and bus

Vehicle access is controlled in summer, and buses are a recurring topic in reviews from seasonal visitors. There are car parks within the park, one at the entrance and another closer to the sea, such as El Atochar.

Routes, dunes and tips

Beyond the beaches, marked trails with information panels lead through fossil dunes, salt pans with birds and semi-arid vegetation. Las Cobaticas visitor centre provides information and an exhibition about the area. Start early to avoid the heat and bring repellent: mosquitoes are a common complaint, especially near the dunes and after rain. Find more places like this under beaches and places of interest.
